
The Complete Video Journalist Course
Experienced in interviewing dignitaries, prime ministers and celerities for TV, Radio and Print means you are in good hands. Our two day course is designed to give you an edge in the field. The course caters for a range of skills at various levels. Specifically in mind are those producers who are now being told to pick up a camera and go, or those who have spent years working with all the operators but now working alone. This two day course will teach you everything you need to know about the camera, as well as lighting and getting that all important audio. Remembering that you may only get one chance.
The course provides both technical and practical guidance showing you how to get the best from the equipment and use the available tools. On hand will be people from a combination of different disciplines, from Film, TV, Broadcast Journalism and Engineering, various people will be on hand to supply the answers, or find solutions.
   
The course structure.
Day 1 - Topic and Lessons
Health and Safety.
Photographic Principles.
Getting to know your camera and getting the best from your camera.
Lighting for an interview. (What to do and what not to do).
One shot capture of audio.
Scripting for the important interview. (How to script in the real world).
Day 2 - Hands On
Day two will start with a recap of the topics covered in day one with an additional look a editing. This will be followed by a question and answer session to finish the morning session. Then you will script an important interview, from a brief provided. The afternoon will comprise of interviewing an actor and actress who will be in character. You will prepare, light, film and mic up the interview. Once interviews are recorded they will be reviewed.
The equipment available for filming on day two will be, Sony Z1s, Canon XH A1, ENG sound mixers, microphones of various types including radio and shotgun mics. Lighting equipment includes Arri, Sachtler and Redhead lighting with filters, gels and the ancillaries for producing professional looking footage.
The course is run over two days (usually Saturday and Sunday) and is held at various locations around the UK.
Course fee £285.00 per person and places are limited. Over the period of the course (Saturday and Sunday) lunch in the form of sandwiches, tea and coffee will be provided, this is inclusive in the price.

Note: Our course's have a maximum number of 12 students per class, with normal numbers around 10 students per class. This means that over the period of any one year only 20 - 30 places are available per course in each location. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
