The Complete Camera – Lighting and Sound Course

This is a two day intensive course is designed for a range of individuals. From the novice or student who has a bit of knowledge but just wants to learn more about how to get better footage from the camera, to those industry operators who wish to learn more about the different areas within a production. The course provides both technical and practical guidance on setting up and using the tools available. On hand will be people from a combination of different disciplines, from Film, TV, Broadcast Journalism and Engineering, various people will be able to supply the answers, or find solutions.

The course structure.

Day one will start with a realistic approach to the impacts of Health and Safety, moving on to Photographic principles, Film Camera set-up and its similarities with the photographic art. Then to Complete the visual side we move on to lighting, the different aspects of light and how to apply them in the real world. The Final subject of the day will be audio and sound capturing.

Day two starts with a recap of the topics covered in day one with an additional a look at editing and workflow. This will be followed by a question and answer session to finish the morning session. The afternoon will comprise of a film shoot involving actors and actresses, you will shoot several scenes moving round various roles and equipment to gain a feel for the individual elements. This will provide the opportunity for you to put into practice what you have learned. You will light, film and record a soundtrack for the scenes shot. If time, we may get to look back on the recordings made and review our results. A dvd copy of the recordings will be available, as will a quick reference pocket guides.

The equipment available for filming on day two will be, Sony Z1s, Canon XH A1, ENG sound mixers, microphones of various types including radio and shotgun mics. Lighting equipment will include Arri, Sachtler and Redhead lighting with filters, gels and the ancillaries for producing professional looking footage.

The course is run over two days (usually Saturday and Sunday) and is held at various locations around the UK.

Course fee for £295.00 per person and places are limited. Over the period of the course (Saturday and Sunday) lunch in the form of sandwiches, tea and coffee will be provided, this is inclusive in the price.

Note: Our course's have a maximum number of 12 students per class, with normal numbers around 10 students per class. This means that over the period of any one year only 20 - 30 places are available per course in each location. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
